Hulu to Charge for Streaming Content

Alec Baldwin Hulu

I guess nothing can stay free forever. It looks like ad revenue is not enough, because a Broadcasting and Cable article reports that hulu.com will start charging for their online entertainment.

“I think a free model is a very difficult way to capture the value of our content,” said News Corp. Deputy Chairman Chase Carey. He went on to say, “It’s time to start getting paid for broadcast content online.” News Corp. suggests that a subscription plan could be running by 2010, but they have no specific timeline yet.

I have a hard time believing that very many people will pay for a Hulu subscription, even if it means no commercials or better selection.
