Sony Pictures takes a Risk on Board Game Movie

Yesterday, Sony Pictures announced that they had bought the motion picture rights to Hasbro’s “Risk.” Doug Belgrad, prexy of Columbia Pictures, had this to say:

The strategic thinking and the tactical gambles that players must take in the game are what make RISK a classic, thoroughly engaging game. Those elements translated into an action-packed, thrilling story are what will make this a uniquely exciting movie.

I’m not sure that Risk has the same built in audience that Transformers and GI Joe have. For one thing, Risk doesn’t have characters. Also, there are no 80’s cartoons about Risk. However, I would look forward to a movie about Scrabble.
